Kaiser Refuses Our Proposals, Offers Unacceptable Takeaways
Your elected bargaining team fought hard at the table, but, due to management’s unacceptable proposed takeaways and unwillingness to meet our demands, our final scheduled bargaining session ended without an agreement. Kaiser demanded massive cuts, and our bargaining team rejected them all, including:
- Copay increases to $20
- More outsourcing and automation of our jobs
- Lower wage rates, elimination of pensions, less time off — starting with new hires, then we’d be next
While Kaiser made record profits of $3.2 billion in the first three months of 2019 alone, they are refusing to invest in staff and quality patient—instead opting to pour over $1 billion into a new corporate headquarters and sports arena sponsorship. We need to let Kaiser know our priorities are clear: GOOD JOBS & QUALITY PATIENT CARE NOW!
We can achieve this through a contract that includes our proposals:
- Duration: 5-year agreement
- Raises: 4% in 2019 followed by 3%, 3%, 4% & 4% over the life of the contract
- No cuts to benefits
- No divisive two-tier system
- 5-year prohibition from outsourcing
- No loss of jobs due to automation
- Workforce development program
- $2500/year HRA retiree medical contribution
- .5 Ed Fund contribution
- Tuition increase to $750 for travel
- Resolve local issues
- Revitalize our partnership!
What’s next?
A majority of SEIU Local 49 and Coalition members have signed a pledge to strike. If Kaiser doesn’t stop breaking the law & we don’t get the contract we deserve, we’re willing to walk the line. We want to be able to show management how unified we are when our next bargaining dates get set.
